The Zora Neale Hurston Summit kicked off on February 1, celebrating the life and legacy of the distinguished writer and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston (Class of 1928), who enrolled at the College nearly a century ago. The two-day event, organized by the Zora Neale Hurston Trust, brought together special guests from the Hurston family and 70 multidisciplinary speakers and presenters, including Hurston scholar luminaries such as Dr. Deborah G. Plant and Carla Kaplan, as well as Barnard’s chair of Africana studies, Monica L. Miller.
