A Lifelong Relationship

Dear Beautiful Barnard Family,

I hope that 2025 so far has been joyous and filled with health and happiness!

They say hindsight is 20/20, but to me, if it’s not backed up with a genuine desire to learn, grow, and sometimes move on from a situation, I’m bound to repeat mistakes until I have done the work that is required for positive change. Looking back at last year, I am reminded of the ways I overcame challenges — sometimes I needed a friend to hear me out, other times some self-care and real rest were crucial, and occasionally I had to just grin and bear it, even when it seemed like the end was nowhere in sight.

Even as bold, brilliant Barnard women, we have our awesome days and also some not so good ones, too. We are changemakers, homemakers, experts, community leaders, business owners, artists, volunteers, and everything in between, and that’s what makes us so beautiful! Most importantly, we are here for each other, offering support, insights, and a shared interest in what brought us together — Barnard.

Your voice, and your participation, is what makes our community a diversely represented one. Personally, my Barnard family helps refine me to be my best self. Likewise, I want to encourage my fellow alumnae to continue to make an impact on the future of Barnard in whatever way you are able: Vote for our classmates this spring in the Alumnae Association of Barnard College elections at our.barnard.edu/elections2025. Attend the 2025 Gala or make a financial gift of any amount. Go to Reunion. Step back into the classroom with Barnard|Next. Share your experiences as a mentor or an opportunity with a talented student through Beyond Barnard.

Barnard is more than four years of college — it’s a lifelong relationship.

I am grateful to be a part of this resilient, impressive community that continues to show up for one another. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do. Together, we will ensure that the future of our beloved Barnard remains steadfast.

I look forward to seeing you all soon, in person or online.

With love and respect,

Sooji Park ’90
