For the ninth year in a row, Barnard College has been named a “Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. Students” and scholars by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs

The distinction reflects the College’s success in preparing students and alumnae for Fulbright U.S. Students and Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program.

“A Barnard student is part of an extraordinary community of women defined by hard work, determination, and grit,” President Laura Ann Rosenbury said. “This recognition is a testament to the academic excellence of our students and faculty, and the premier research experiences made accessible to our remarkable community.”

Over 65 applications were submitted for the 2025-2026 Fulbright cycle through the College, and eleven of the College's alumnae were selected. This cohort is currently completing graduate programs, serving as English teaching assistants or conducting independent research in eight host countries, including Sri Lanka, Germany, Indonesia, Chile, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

"Barnard is now annually doubling or even tripling the number of Fulbright US Student participants that it used to see in a typical year,” said A-J Aronstein, Vice President of Community Engagement & Lifelong Success. “We're among the top in the nation among liberal arts colleges, and regularly outpacing R1 universities. What's difficult to quantify is the value of the culture that we've built up: students, faculty, alumnae and staff working together to put together the best possible applications. It's an amazing community-wide effort!"
