Spotlight on Barnard's Athletes

Thanks to a unique consortium agreement with Columbia University, Barnard is the only women's college where student athletes can compete in NCAA Division I sports. And now, athletes at Barnard have a lounge of their own in the Francine LeFrak Center.

Advancing the Barnard Community's Physical Well-Being

The Francine LeFrak Center is home to the 4,000 sq. ft. Barnard Fitness Center, with equipment to meet the fitness needs of current Barnard students, faculty, and staff. This incredible facility includes brand new Matrix equipment, (free weights, selectorized machines, cardio, functional training), along with Pilates, and yoga equipment. Open 7 days a week, and free to the entire Barnard community, the space prioritizes movement and the ways it can improve overall well-being.

Daily group fitness classes are also available through FITbear—a longstanding Barnard initiative offered at no cost to all current Barnard students, staff, and faculty. FITbear classes include yoga, Total Sculpt, Cardio Sculpt, Strength Training, and more, providing accessible, community-based opportunities to move and feel good together.

Throughout the year, the Barnard community has access to numerous events related to enhancing and understanding physical well-being on topics like nutrition, CPR, First Aid, and AED training, Vaccine Fairs, Flu Fairs, and more. Programs are held in collaboration with Health and Wellness, Barnard Dining, Residential Life and Housing, and many other initiatives across campus.
