Barnard faculty members are consistently engaged in research that pushes the conversation in their respective fields forward. Since December, several Barnard professors and programs received grants to support their work.
Elizabeth Ananat (Associate Professor of Economics), Belinda Archibong (Assistant Professor of Economics), Sandy Black (Professor of Economics and of International and Public Affairs at Columbia), and Anja Benshaul-Tolonen (Assistant Professor of Economics) received a seminar grant from The Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy (ISERP) at Columbia, for “Diversifying the Social Sciences: The Women in Economics Working Group.”
Peter Balsam (Professor of Psychology and Samuel R. Milbank Chair) received renewed support for “Timing and Associative Learning” via a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health at the National Institutes of Health.
Elizabeth Cook (Assistant Professor in Environmental Science) received a National Science Foundation award for “Converging Social, Ecological and Technological Infrastructure Systems (SETS) for Urban Resilience.”
E. Mara Green (Assistant Professor of Anthropology) was awarded a Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Wenner-Gren Foundation for “The Fragility of Sense: Language, Ethics, and Understanding in Deaf Nepal.”
Rajiv Sethi (Professor of Economics) received a Fulbright award to India for the project “Identity, Location, and Access to Secondary Education in India.”
Additionally, the Annie Eaton Society made an institutional grant to support the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), directed by Elida Martinez-Gaynor. The Bank of New York Mellon made an institutional grant to support the Science Pathways Scholars Program (SP2), overseen by Paul E. Hertz.
