Office of Family Engagement

At Barnard, we believe parents and guardians are our partners as we work together to empower students to make the most of their college careers and chart their own paths.

Office of Family Engagement

Led by Director of Family Engagement & Special Assistant to the President Katelyn Dutton '14, the Office of Family Engagement supports Barnard students by helping Barnard parents and guardians navigate college life. Barnard strives to educate parents and families about Barnard, Columbia, and life at university in general. Whether you are curious about resources on and off campus, policies, academics, or upcoming events, the Office of Family Engagement keeps families informed so that we can help you help your students thrive at college.

Family Weekend 2021

Family Weekend 2021 will take place on Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16. We warmly invite parents and families of current Barnard students in all class years to attend. This year, we plan to include both virtual and on-campus components, so you are welcome to travel to New York City or participate from wherever you may be.

Please note: As President Beilock wrote in her email to the community on August 13, we will continue to monitor the pandemic closely and adapt, as needed, to the circumstances around us to prioritize the health and safety of our community. When making plans to visit Barnard, please keep in mind that on-campus events may be changed or canceled due to evolving local and campus health conditions.

Traditionally, Family Weekend includes campus highlights; lectures from our world-class faculty; discussions with our deans, directors, and administrators; panels featuring Barnard students; and a State of the College address by President Beilock, as well as other opportunities to connect.

More information and a link to register will be shared by email in the coming weeks.
