Fixation: How to Have Stuff without Breaking the Planet.
Sh*t is broken. Our massive global system of consumption is broken. Our individual relationship with our stuff is broken. And in each of our homes, a few things are broken. Seven years ago, theatrical designer Sandra Goldmark opened a three-week pop up repair shop in an empty storefront in Inwood, northern Manhattan. This little shop, staffed with fellow backstage theatre artists, was the first step on a quest to radically reimagine what a healthy relationship with our stuff might look like - for individuals hungry for a way forward, for businesses looking for a path to sustainable growth, and for everyone committed to building the personal, social and political changes that will move us to a more sustainable and equitable circular economy. In the dozens of repair shops Goldmark operated around New York city, she and her colleagues fixed thousands of broken objects - from blenders and chairs to stuffed lobsters and a polyester therapy tunnel. In her upcoming book , Fixation, each object, each act of care, becomes an opportunity to rethink how we live in the world, and what we really value. Sh*t is indeed broken. But we have the tools. Let's fix it.
