Tuition from September 2026 through May 2027

Tuition for all undergraduate students:
To remain in good academic standing, all undergraduate students are expected to fulfill at least 12 credits per semester.
$73,120 per year ($36,560 per semester)
Tuition for Resumed Education:
Available from the director of the program in the Office of the Dean of Studies.
 
Comprehensive Fee:
This includes the Student Health Service Fee, Class Fee, Computer Fee, Student Government Charges, and access to the Dodge Physical Fitness Center and Lerner Hall at Columbia University. Does NOT include Student Health Insurance.
$2,472 per year ($1,236 per semester)
Student Health Insurance:
Barnard Students are required to carry health insurance. If you do not have health insurance coverage, you may purchase the health policy provided through Barnard by Aetna Student Health. If you are covered under your parents' health plan, you may opt out of Barnard's insurance at University Health Plans by August 28, 2026. However, to avoid late payment fees, the College *strongly* suggests that students waive the health insurance by the payment deadline. You may find information about the Barnard health insurance plan on our FAQ.

Study Abroad

After a student commits to a program, tuition and fees, plus health insurance (if applicable), payable to Barnard, are due by August 1, 2026, for the Fall 2026 semester, or by December 1, 2026, for the Spring 2027 semester. However, if you wish Barnard to pay your tuition abroad before these dates, we require that your invoice be resolved earlier. Barnard will not be able to pay your tuition abroad until the Barnard bill has been settled in full.

The student is responsible for paying all other costs (housing, board, other fees, etc.) directly to the institution abroad at the rates specified by the institution.

After a student Commits to a program, tuition and fees for one term abroad will be $33,978, plus either $1,800 health insurance (fall semester) or $2,781 (spring and summer semesters together, if applicable) payable to Barnard. The student is responsible for paying all other costs (housing, board, other fees, etc.) directly to the institution abroad at their rates.

Payment of Barnard charges is due in full by August 5, 2024, for the Fall 2024 semester and by December 1, 2024, for the Spring 2025 semester. However, if you wish Barnard to pay your tuition abroad before these dates, we require that your invoice be resolved earlier. Barnard will not be able to pay your tuition abroad until the Barnard bill has been settled in full.

Changing Enrolled Meal Plan Selection

Study Abroad

After a student Commits to a program, tuition and fees for one term abroad will be $32,097, plus either $TBD health insurance (fall semester) or $TBD health insurance (spring and summer semesters together) payable to Barnard. The student is responsible for paying all other costs (housing, board, other fees, etc.) directly to the institution abroad at their own rates.

Payment of Barnard charges is due in full by August 4, 2023, for the Fall 2023 semester and by December 1, 2023, for the Spring 2024 semester. However, if you wish Barnard to pay your tuition abroad before these dates, we require that your invoice be resolved earlier. Barnard will not be able to pay your tuition abroad until the Barnard bill has been settled in full.

Meals and Points

Meal Plan Points are included with meal plans. These points are "dollars" that are part of your meal plan and can be used like cash at any dining location at Barnard. You may use these points to purchase à la carte meals and snacks. Barnard's Meal Plan Points carry over from the Fall semester to the Spring semester if you remain enrolled in a Barnard meal plan in the Spring. However, Meal Plan Points remaining in your account at the end of the academic year are forfeited.

Any unused meals are forfeited at the end of each semester.

Barnard students can swipe in guests for meals up to the total value of the meal plan.

In addition, Barnard students can add meals throughout the year in increments of 5 and 10, and 20 and points in increments of $25 as needed through Chartwells.

Barnard students may use their meal plans at Hewitt Dining Hall and the Diana Dining Room on Barnard’s campus or John Jay, Ferris-Booth, and JJ’s Place on Columbia’s campus.

Meal Plan Selection

Barnard students are automatically enrolled in the default meal plan based on their residence. However, if a Barnard student wishes to choose a different meal plan within the requirements below, the student may select a plan by August 25 on the StarRez Portal and submit any additional cost to the Bursar.

* First-year students in the Barnard Quad (Brooks, Hewitt, Reid, and Sulzberger Halls) are required to enroll in a Platinum Plan (19 meals per week + 120 dining points per term).

** Upper Class and Transfer/Visiting students residing on floors 2-8 in the Barnard Quad (Brooks, Hewitt, Reid, Sulzberger Halls) must enroll in a Barnard Flex 150 meals per term + 625 points as a minimum.

*** Upper-class and Transfer/Visiting students residing elsewhere in Barnard/Columbia housing are automatically enrolled in the Flex 100 Meal Plan (100 meals per term + 400 points) but may opt into any other plan. See Changing a Meal Plan Selection below.

**** All full-time non-resident students are enrolled in a Convenience Plan (400 points only). Non-residential students may opt-out of the meal plan or upgrade to any other Barnard plan by August 25. See Changing Meal Plan Selection below.

Columbia students must complete a meal contract at (Forms and Links) and submit it to Barnard Bursar each term. In addition, Columbia students must submit full payment with their dining contracts. If paying by check, mail the meal contract and payment to Barnard Bursar, 3009 Broadway New York, NY 10027-6598. Otherwise, you may pay online at barnard.afford.com and submit the meal contract by scan (bursar@barnard.edu), fax (212-280-8941), or mail (Barnard Bursar, 3009 Broadway, NY, NY 10027-6598).

Changing a Meal Plan Selection

The deadline to change or drop (non-residential students only) a meal plan is:

  • August 25, 2021, for the Fall 2021 semester.
  • January 7, 2022, for the Spring 2022 semester.

Tuition for all undergraduate students:
There will be no increase in the Tuition rate for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Students are expected to enroll full-time and will be charged for the Fall and Spring terms at the full-time tuition rate. However, the 2020-2021 Academic Calendar provides students the flexibility to take their required courses over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) at the cost of two semesters.

To avoid late payment fees, the College *strongly* suggests that students opt out by the spring semester payment deadline by December 14, 2020. Students who do not complete the waiver process by the deadline of January 8, 2021, will be enrolled in the entire enrollment period's health insurance plan.

Quarantine or isolation meals will be deducted from each student's meal plan, so students should plan accordingly.  If a student runs out of meals, they will be responsible for the additional costs for daily meals while in quarantine/isolation meal coverage.  If you have questions about quarantine/isolations meal coverage, you may contact spring2021@barnard.edu.

Barnard students may purchase meals throughout the year in increments of 5, 10, 20 swipes and points in increments of $25 as needed directly from Chartwells.

Barnard students may use their meal plans at Hewitt Dining Hall, Liz's Place, Milstein Center, and the Diana Dining Room on Barnard's campus or John Jay, Ferris-Booth, and JJ's Place on Columbia's campus.

Meal Plan Defaults

Students residing in Barnard campus housing (regardless of their building assignment) will be enrolled in the Standard Plan (150 Meal per term + 625 points). Students can change their meal plans starting November 13.

Barnard College Students residing at 600 W 113th St will be enrolled in the CU Plan A .  Students may change to any CU Meal Plan listed on the change form.

Students residing off-campus or commuting from home will not be eligible to purchase a meal plan or points for the spring 2021 semester.  

Meal Plan Selection

Barnard students are automatically enrolled in the default meal plan based on their residence. If a Barnard student wishes to choose a different meal plan within the requirements above, the student may select a plan by December 18 on the Meal Plan Change Form and submit any additional cost to the Bursar. 

Columbia students for Spring 2021 are not eligible to enroll in a Barnard Meal Plan.  However, Columbia students may purchase meal swipes in increments of 5, 10, and 20 and points in increments through the Chartwells site.  

Submitted forms must have the student's actual signature (not a typed font). If you cannot fax or scan/email a signed form to us, you can use a website like pdfescape.com/open to fill out the form, draw your signature, and then send the signed form to us. Changing a Meal Plan Selection
