Digital Humanities Center Commitments
Commitment 1: Model ecological practices within the DHC suite
- Design and install signage about our commitments to sustainability by May 2022
- Finalize sustainable purchasing and reuse policy that prioritizes reuse, green purchasing, and women & BIPOC-owned businesses
Commitment 2: Design sustainable events
- Prioritize local, sustainable foods and reduce food waste
- Vegetarian meals only at DHC events
- No new plastic service items
- Set targets for air-travel emissions reduction and price offsets
Commitment 3: Model sustainable digital practices
- Implement digital project sunsetting policy and process by August 2022
- Prioritize static websites over dynamic to save energy and promote accessibility
- Share tools & workflows we develop at DH conferences
- Investigate clean energy for web hosting
Commitment 4: Support and raise awareness about Black feminist ecological digital research and pedagogy
- By 2022, develop supports for Black feminist ecological scholarship and pedagogy
- Create resource packets, links, and information for students, faculty, and staff
- Continue and expand formal and informal events for student, faculty, and staff to engage with each other about climate issues
- Provide pedagogical support for faculty to create new courses or adapt old ones
