Enrollment Confirmation
Confirming Your Presence at Barnard (Enrollment Confirmation)
All returning students are expected to be present for the start of classes, as indicated on the Academic Calendar. All new students (first-years and transfer students, as well as visiting students) are expected to be present for the start of Orientation (Fall NSOP for first-years and fall transfers, Spring NSOP for spring transfers). Please check the dates on the Academic Calendar to see when those programs begin.
Final enrollment confirmation will entail both a student's successful registration for at least 12 credits of coursework (unless otherwise permitted to enroll in fewer credits) and remittance of Term Bill payment (net of financial aid) by the semester registration/ add deadline (end of the second week of classes). Proper remittance will also include students who are up to date on their Term Bill payment plan. Students who have not completed both of these processes by the semester registration/add deadline will be deregistered for courses and, therefore, considered not enrolled for the semester. Students will then automatically be placed on a personal leave of absence and should be aware of leave implications and procedures.
We understand that events might occur in the lives of students to disrupt their plans; if a returning student cannot be present for the first day of classes or Enrollment Confirmation, they must let the College know before the first day of Enrollment Confirmation. Returning students who cannot be present for the first day must agree to make every effort to be present by the last day of Enrollment Confirmation. Students who have not contacted the college before the end of Enrollment Confirmation and are not present by the last day may be withdrawn and will have to seek readmission for the following semester. New students (first-years or transfers) must be present on the first day of orientation, fall or spring. If they cannot be present, they need to notify the College in advance of the first day of the Orientation program. If they do not contact the College, and if they are not present for Fall Orientation, they may be asked to defer their enrollment until the following fall. If transfers are not present on the first day of Spring Orientation and have not notified the College in advance, their enrollment may be deferred until the fall semester of that year.
Students on F-1 visas (international students, non-U.S. citizens) are expected to manage their visa processes in order to comply with the same deadlines as all new and returning students.
