Financial Wellness
Using a framework that is inclusive of all members of the community and beyond, the Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Center for Well-Being addresses the key dimensions of financial literacy by providing programming and tools to propel success.
The Francine LeFrak Center ran a financial literacy pilot program this semester for the high school students of the Young Women’s Leadership School in the Bronx (TYWLS). The session were led by our LeFrak Ambassadors and held alternately at TYWLS school and at Barnard. We thank TYWLS of the Bronx, and our fabulous LeFrak Health and Wellness Ambassadors, for their great programs and participation.
Additionally, we held a series of #LunchandLearn events to promote financial wellness. Financial expert Gordon Lamont from Santander Bank came to campus to discuss the importance of establishing and managing credit.
Physical Wellness
The Francine LeFrak Center is setting the new standard for well-being in higher education — and education at all levels and in all settings — by applying a wide lens that includes multiple dimensions of well-being in its programming. Our Walk and Talk series was created to promote both physical movement and learn about topics of wellness from experts in our community.
Throughout the semester, we held “Walk and Talk” programs to promote physical movement and learn about topics of wellness from experts in our community. We walked and talked with Women’s Studies’ Rebecca Jordan-Young about managing hormones, we discussed Current Mental Health Options and Wellness Modalities with Mollie Landes ’18, and we conversed about AAPI Mental Health, during AAPI Mental Health Awareness Month, with Professor Nicholas Bartlett.
Mental Wellness
Signature programming created by the Francine LeFrak Center team amplifies the importance of holistic well-being, particularly with programming to address key mental health issues, especially for girls and women.
During periods of high stress and anxiety for students, we stocked “Wellness Where You Are” snack and wellness item stations around the Barnard Library to remind students to take wellness breaks during reading and finals weeks and held a "Wellness Where You Are" Midnight Breakfast event.
