On July 18, 2022, Alyssa Battistoni, assistant professor of political science, published a book review in The Review of Politics. The review, titled “What Else Could Political Thought Do?,” explores the major questions in political theory posed by Katrina Forrester’s book “In the Shadow of Justice: Postwar Liberalism and the Remaking of Political Philosophy.”
Battistoni explains that Forrester’s reframing of Rawlsian liberal tradition in political philosophy prompts reflection on the future of the field. By highlighting how Forrester differs from other political scientists in her method of analyzing political tradition, Battistoni examines how visions of better worlds are doomed to fail if they ignore questions of power, domination, and history.
