Disability & Access @ Barnard
Disability & Access @ Barnard
Disability & Access @ Barnard is an online hub of resources for navigating Barnard as a person with a disability, a person with accessibility needs, or any ally for disability justice.
Academics
Students with accommodation requests should go to The Center for Accessibility Resources & Disability Services at Barnard (CARDS). CARDS offers housing and academic accommodations for students with qualified documentation. The types of accommodations vary based on the person's need. CARDS engages with interactive process with students based upon each student’s specific situation. As a result, CARDS may implement an individualized accommodation plan for students to allow them access to their educational program(s). Students will work with a dedicated coordinator to implement their accommodation plan.
Student organizations and groups
- CU Sign is Columbia University and Barnard College's sign language club. It hosts weekly meetings for free classes that include American Sign Language vocabulary, activities and discussions about deaf culture, all led by an ASL instructor.
- Columbia Student Disability Network is an affinity group for the disability community and its allies. Columbia Student Disability Network values disability justice, inclusion, and connection. This is open to Barnard students.
- Spoons is a disability justice discussion and action group! During weekly meetings (each an hour and fifteen minutes in length), students gather to discuss current events impacting disabled communities, support one another in navigating campus life, build friendship and community, and consider strategies for challenging ableism on campus. The group is convened by Multicultural Affairs but led foremost by the interests of student participants.
- CARDS Student Group is a Barnard student-led group launching Spring 2024.

In this introductory workshop, we'll explore what digital accessibility is and why it's important. We'll also share three strategies that you can apply to make all your digital content - from Instagram posts to Canvas files and everything in between - more accessible.
