General FAQs
Parents, families, and loved ones of current Barnard students in all class years are warmly invited to attend Family Weekend 2021.
Family Weekend 2021 will take place both in person and virtually, so you may participate from wherever you are.
Most programs will take place virtually on the Zoom platform. In light of the ongoing pandemic and our commitment to prioritize the health and safety of our community, in-person activities will be limited to the President’s State of the College, roundtables with the deans and directors of student services, and campus tours.
Yes. To attend any in-person or virtual Family Weekend programs, you will need to complete the registration form, which is linked here and was shared via email to parents@barnard.edu.
In-person attendees are required to provide proof of vaccination and proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test, as well as complete a symptom attestation each day they are on campus. More information on these requirements to attend in-person events can be found on our website.
All Family Weekend programming is offered free of charge. We are happy to make this slate of events accessible to as many families and loved ones of current students as possible.
If you are able to do so, we hope you will consider making a gift to the Barnard Annual Fund in honor of your student. Your generous support provides Barnard with resources that empower students to pursue their interests and change the world, and your Annual Fund gift will immediately be used where it will have the most impact on the experiences of students.
If you have any questions about how to make a gift or would like information about how to become a member of the Parents Council, please contact parentsgiving@barnard.edu.
Please contact familyweekend@barnard.edu with any questions. We will be able to assist you via email or to schedule a time to speak via phone, if that is your preference.
Attending In Person
Family members attending in-person Family Weekend events are required to provide proof of vaccination and proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test (no more than three days ahead), as well as complete a health attestation each day they are on campus. In addition, attendees are required to wear a face covering at all times, except when actively eating or drinking.
More information on these requirements to attend in-person events, including suggested testing sites in New York City, can be found here.
Our Pandemic Response Team, who work closely with Infectious Disease specialists at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, have advised that visitors will not be permitted into the residence halls given current health conditions.

To avoid any technical issues during Family Weekend Online, we encourage you to download Zoom in advance. The Zoom application can be used on computers, tablets, and phones and is available for download on Zoom’s website at the following link: https://zoom.us/download. You may create a Zoom account if you would like, but it is not required to join Family Weekend Online programs.
In the Zoom Help Center, you will find instructions for joining a video call using the Zoom application and for joining a meeting by phone.
Yes, all live Family Weekend Online events — with the exception of virtual classes — will be recorded and made available exclusively to Barnard families after the weekend. Virtual classes may be recorded at the discretion of the instructor. These recordings will not be made available to families.
A recording notice will be shared at the beginning of each recorded event. As noted here, the details differ based on whether the event is formatted as a Zoom Meeting or Zoom Webinar.

Health & Safety
Parents not attending Family Weekend programs but wishing to visit campus may follow the “Other Visitors” protocols on the Accessing Campus webpage. They are able to visit outdoor areas on Barnard’s campus after completing a Visitor Health Screening Form upon arrival (QR code to scan available at the main gate at 117th St). They do not need to provide proof of a negative test. Indoor access is limited to the Admissions Visitors Center in Sulzberger Annex and the Diana Center, where they can visit the Barnard Store, Liz’s Place, and the restrooms.
Due to continued pandemic response protocols, attendees should remain outdoors whenever possible when not participating in Family Weekend programs. Attendees will have access to the the Admissions Visitors Center in Sulzberger Annex and the Diana Center, where attendees can visit the Barnard Store, Liz’s Place, and the restrooms.
Yes, family members under age 12 are not required to be vaccinated to attend Family Weekend. They must follow the testing requirement by uploading proof of a negative COVID-19 test result as outlined on the In-Person Requirements webpage.
Due to health and safety concerns, the College cannot make exceptions to the vaccine requirement for participation in Family Weekend events. Instead, we invite you to join our programming virtually.
If you are concerned that you won't receive your PCR results in time, we suggest you also take an antigen test on October 14 to ensure you have proof of a negative result to upload before coming to campus on the 15th. Some suggested options that carry both test types are on the In-Person Requirements webpage, and at-home tests can also be purchased at Walgreens and other drugstores.
Please let the staff at the check-in table know. They will be able to complete an attestation on your behalf by completing it verbally with you.
