FEEL WELL, DO WELL: HEALTH and WELL-BEING at BARNARD
As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, health and wellness are more important than ever. President Sian Leah Beilock and Dr. Marina Catallozzi, the College’s inaugural Chief Health Officer, discuss the many resources and offices at Barnard that comprise our holistic approach to student well-being, building the foundation for our students to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: The Reading Brain (Prof. Alex White)
Your brain is performing a remarkable feat as you read this passage: recognizing hundreds of little black shapes and transforming them into sound and meaning. Doing so relies on a specialized part of the brain that only forms when children learn to read. Dr. White will explain what we know, and what we don’t yet know, about how the brain reads.

CAMPUS TOUR (#1 of 4)
Take a guided campus tour led by a Barnard Student Admissions Representative! The campus tour lasts approximately one hour and covers academics, campus life, student services, and residential living. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, tours will be mostly outside with access permitted to the lobbies of our main academic buildings.
This will be offered again at 2:00 p.m. and on Saturday.

ROUNDTABLES with STUDENT SERVICES
Barnard’s outstanding student services staff support students with all facets of life at Barnard. During this roundtable session, you will meet our staff and learn how they provide your students with intellectual and social opportunities, promote student wellness, build community, and more. You will also have the opportunity to discuss your student’s Barnard experience thus far and ask the questions that are on your mind. Attendees will switch tables every 20 minutes so that they can learn about three different areas at Barnard.
Participants include: Access Barnard, Beyond Barnard, Center for Accessibility Resources & Disability Services (CARDS) [1:00 p.m. session only], Class Deans, Deans’ Office for Advising and Support, Health & Wellness, Pandemic Response Team, Residential Life & Housing, and Student Experience & Engagement.
This will be offered again at 2:00 p.m. Families attending virtually will be able to attend the Open House with Student Services on Saturday.

TOUR of the ARTHUR ROSS GREENHOUSE
Join Nick Gershberg, Greenhouse Administrator, for a detailed virtual tour of this remarkable campus facility and answer your questions. The Arthur Ross Greenhouse, atop Milbank Hall on Barnard's campus, provides a rare NYC opportunity to enjoy nature and study plants. The previous greenhouse was built in 1928 and was replaced by the current 3,400 square foot state-of-the-art plant growth facility in 1998. The conservatory has about 450 different species of plants from varied climate zones and is utilized as a research and teaching facility as well as a public space.

This fall, students in all class years are adjusting or readjusting to in-person living and learning at Barnard — as they navigate their course loads, forge friendships, cultivate their passions, and explore ways to engage with the community. Our deans and directors will share an overview of the many resources at Barnard that help your student thrive, as well as their strategies for building confidence, community, and belonging.

Computer Science at Barnard: Computing for Good and Computing for All
Computer Science at Barnard is growing by leaps and bounds. From just four majors in 2013 to more than 100 now, Computer Science is now one of Barnard’s top ten most popular majors — and the horizons are only expanding with the launch of the Vagelos Computational Center in 2018, which empowers students across the College to explore computing and build their skills, and our very own Computer Science program in 2019. Join Linda Bell (Provost and Dean of the Faculty; Claire Tow Professor of Economics) and Rebecca Wright (Director of the Vagelos Computational Science Center and Druckenmiller Professor of Computer Science) for a conversation about studying this exciting field at Barnard, the Barnard Year of Science, and Professor Wright's own research in the field of information security.
