Rebecca Goldstein lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her wife, Ariela. She holds a doctorate in pharmacology. In the Winter 2023 feature on crosswords, she says, "Despite strong female influence in the birth of crosswords, for decades, crossword puzzles have skewed largely toward white cis-het male normativity." For that reason she strives to create puzzles with a distinct voice. "The way I see it, not everyone will enjoy every puzzle they encounter, but the more diversity that exists in puzzles, the more likely everyone is to find something they see themselves represented in, and I’m all for it."

Goldstein began writing crossword puzzles in 2020 and has since published nearly 200 puzzles in many mainstream and indie venues, including The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times, and, of course, Barnard Magazine. This past April, she “hit for the cycle”—have at least one crossword published on each day of the week in The New York Times
