Each year the AABC Fellowship Committee selects outstanding Barnard alumnae, chosen through a rigorous application and interview process, to receive fellowships for graduate study. These grants are generously funded by the Edith and Frances Mulhall Achill

PhD candidate in the department of English at the University of Pennsylvania…Her work on early modern drama and poetry engages with the fields of book history and political theory…Current research focuses on print, genre, and politics in seventeenth-century England

Eva Rosen ’05 

Doctoral candidate in sociology and social policy at Harvard after majoring in political science and French and Francophone studies at Barnard…Her dissertation is an ethnographic study of Baltimore neighborhoods emerging in the wake of public-housing demolition

Suzanne O’Connell ’00 

PhD candidate in horticultural science at North Carolina State University and a recent Fulbright Fellow to Honduras…Research focuses on indicators of nitrogen mineralization from cover crops in organic farming systems (cover crops protect and improve the soil while acting as a natural fertilizer)…Hopes to encourage sustainable farming in the U.S. and abroad through a combination of science and policy work

Hannah Elmer ’06

PhD candidate in Columbia’s history department…Specializes in the cultural history of medieval Europe…Developing projects on crime, punishment, and the Dominican Order, and conceptions of regional identity…Awarded Fulbright Fellowship to study Middle High German and Old Norse in Vienna, Austria…Master’s degree in early modern history from Berlin’s Free University
