For the eighth year in a row, Barnard College has been named a “Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. Students” by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The distinction recognizes the College’s continued success in preparing students and alumnae for the opportunity to study abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Students and Fulbright U.S. Scholars Program.
The news of the College — a student- and scholar-producing top three institution — being named for the 2024-2025 academic year was announced in The Chronicle of Higher Education on February 25. The list of top producers is announced annually.
“We’ve really run out of superlatives about Barnard’s candidates at this point. When Beyond Barnard started managing Fulbright advising in 2018, the College was already a top producer even with six total recipients. To have nearly tripled that number has taken an extraordinary amount of work,” said A-J Aronstein, Vice President of Community Engagement & Lifelong Success. “It has taken a community-wide effort to get Barnard to this point, and we will all continue to work hard to drive these results.”
Over 76 applications were submitted for the 2024-2025 Fulbright cycle through the College, and 16 of the College’s alumnae were selected — the largest cohort to date. They are currently serving as graduate students, researchers, and English teaching assistants in 10 host countries, including Colombia, Philippines, and Mozambique. Since the 2004-2005 academic year, Barnard has been named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution a total of 16 times, demonstrating the College’s continued eminence in producing world-class scholars.
The College’s success in this arena is owed in large part to the excellent research experiences afforded to undergraduate students and is supported by Beyond Barnard, which provides professional development support to students and alumnae, beginning when they arrive at the College and continuing throughout their careers.
