Barnard scholars consistently receive major grants that support a diverse array of interests, enabling them to conduct new or continuing research or to collaborate with other institutions. In December, two researchers from the Barnard Center for Research on Women received a grant for their work.

Andrea Ritchie and Mariame Kaba received a grant from the Open Society Foundations to support the Interrupting Criminalization initiative. Their initiative combines participatory research, data analysis, and systemic advocacy, working in partnership with local campaigns to identify primary pathways, policing practices, charges, and points of intervention to address the growing criminalization and incarceration of women and LGBTQ people of color for offenses related to public order, drugs, child welfare, self-defense, and survival.
