Dear Members of the Barnard Community,

Many of us, here and around the world, have watched with shock and deep concern this week as war has engulfed Ukraine. As we seek to understand what led to this historic conflict and where it might lead, please join me on Monday, February 28, 7:30-8:30 p.m. EST, via Zoom, for a conversation with Professor Kimberly Marten, who specializes in international relations and international security, with a keen interest in Russia; and Barnard Trustee Steven Solnick, Head of School at the Calhoun School, a political scientist by training, with expertise in Russia. This conversation will allow the community to engage in critical questions such as what does this mean for the stability of Ukraine? What are Putin’s motives? What does this mean for NATO and what role will sanctions play in the ongoing conflict?

This virtual event is hosted by the Barnard DEI Cabinet and is open to Barnard faculty, staff, students and alumnae. Register here.

For more information or questions, please contact dei-cabinet@barnard.edu.

Our hearts go out to all of you who may have personal connections with Ukraine, Russia, and the region. College officials have reached out to some of you directly; please know that we are all here to support you.

Sincerely,

Sian Leah Beilock
President
