On October 4, 2021, Katherine Krimmel, assistant professor of political science, was announced as a recipient of the 2021-2022 American fellowship from The American Association of University Women (AAUW). The AAUW is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and girls through research, education, and advocacy, with over 170,000 members worldwide. Their American fellowship is awarded to postdoctoral researchers pursuing academic work and leading innovative community projects to empower women and girls. 

Krimmel has been with the Barnard political science department since 2016, during which time she was awarded the Hahn-Sigelman Prize for the best article published in American Politics Research and a National Fellowship from the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. Her research on American political parties, polarization, and public opinion has been published in a number of prominent political science journals, including American Politics Research, Harvard Business Review, and Legislative Studies Quarterly.
