Dear Barnard Community,
The New York City Emergency Management has issued a Winter Storm Warning through 7 p.m. tomorrow. Barnard College is monitoring the storm and is taking precautions and response planning as it impacts our campus and the New York City area.
Snow accumulation, heavy at times, and winds gusting up to 45 MPH are possible on Saturday. See below for basic preparedness measures to consider.
Those requiring assistance are urged to remain on campus and curtail travel until weather conditions improve. While campus will remain open, please be advised that due to the snow, certain entrances, pathways, and staircases around campus may be closed. The main gate at 117th Street and Broadway will always remain open. On Saturday, the Milstein Center floors LL-5 will be open regular hours 10 a.m.-12 a.m. Library Services will be closed.
Please use caution when walking, biking, or driving and allow for additional travel time. Check schedules as public transportation may have delays or cancellations. Students requiring assistance should call the CARES Response Line at 4-3362 for non-emergencies or 4-6666 for on-campus emergencies. Additional guidance in case of hazardous conditions:
Preparing for an Outage
- Charge cell phones
- Gather supplies
- Turn refrigerator/freezers to a colder setting
During an Outage
- Stay clear of downed power lines
- Turn off all appliances
- Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage
We will share additional information about campus operations, significant travel and weather advisories, and adjustments to VIA shuttle service as necessary on the website.
Stay safe,
Amy Zavadil
