Assistant Professor of Chemistry
The Vizcarra group investigates how actin, the most abundant protein in many cells, is regulated to perform its impressive list of roles – from pushing crawling cells forward to separating cells when they divide. The focus will be on protein interactions that control the assembly and maintenance of actin rich stereocilia that are the “hairs” of inner ear hair cells. Her group will also work on engineering actin binding proteins with the goals of understanding their evolution and creating new, useful imaging probes and therapeutics.
