STEAM in the City is a grant-funded program hosted by the Community Engagement and Inclusion office that is designed to support local K–12 public school teachers in developing experiential learning opportunities for their students in STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, arts/architecture/agriculture, and mathematics). These learning opportunities are geared towards getting students out to explore their neighborhood– identifying tree types in Morningside Park, meeting baby bees in Harlem rooftop apiaries, and a wide range of other experiences that will change how students understand and interact with their local ecosystem. Participating Teacher Fellows receive STEAM education professional development workshops with Barnard faculty and staff, a supply budget for STEAM related project and classroom materials, and staffing support for STEAM projects from Student Educational Experience Designers (SEEDs).
