Access to Campus for Research Personnel & Research Subjects
With ongoing restrictions to Barnard and Columbia campus access, faculty and staff at Barnard should follow the instructions below to request access for lab/research personnel and research subjects during SRI 2024:
Access to the Barnard campus for people who do not have Barnard IDs but are needed for essential research purposes:
- Submit a request via the Barnard campus access request form via Workday. A faculty or staff member must place this request to ensure it is routed to the Provost's Office (i.e., Exec. Vice Provost Ed Barnaby) for approval. Please submit this form daily if the individual is needed on campus for more than one day, and at least 24 hours before the day they are needed on campus.
- Although access requests must be submitted for each day the "guest" will be on campus, faculty or staff can submit multiple access requests in one fell swoop. For example, if research personnel are joining for two weeks, please submit requests for each day - but all ten requests can be submitted, one after the other, in one sitting.
As part of the Workday form, faculty or staff can leave in the comments section a rationale for bringing the individual onto campus. It is recommended that faculty and staff use language like "essential" or "critical research functions" to convey the importance of the individual to the lab's research and work.
Requests are approved by Ed Barnaby when they appear on his portal, before they are handed to another office for the final step. Therefore, while the approval may not be immediate, the Provost's Office is expediting requests as quickly as possible.
Access to the Columbia campus for BC students working with BC mentors and/or CU mentors:
- The names and UNIs of all BC SRI students who need access to CU research labs have already been submitted to CU for approval.
- If any Barnard College student(s) are still having difficulty accessing the Columbia University campus, please communicate with sri@barnard.edu and with Dina Merrer (dmerrer@barnard.edu).
Please communicate with the SRI Committee via sri@barnard.edu with additional questions or concerns.
