Dear Barnard community,

In addition to the construction work currently being done in Barnard Hall, some preliminary work will begin on the R&D Science Center project which is in Altschul Hall  in the coming weeks. The College is working with the R&D Science Center construction team to schedule this work on select nights and weekends to limit its impact on faculty, staff and students during weekdays.

Starting tonight, the construction team working on the R&D Science Center renovation will begin collecting exterior wall samples in various locations throughout the building as part of its preliminary work. This work will be completed overnight to limit its impact on our community, and is scheduled from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30 through Friday, Feb. 3. There may be some sporadic drilling noise during this time, but it shouldn’t impact those living in residence halls.

In addition, the construction team will also be on-site to collect roof slab samples on Saturday, Feb. 4, and Saturday, Feb. 11 from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. There may be some drilling and occasional jackhammering noise during this work, but louder work will not begin until after 9 a.m. each Saturday.

We know that construction on campus can be disruptive and inconvenient at times. We will be doing our best to minimize this disruption and keep you informed as both the Barnard Hall and Altschul Hall projects move along this winter and spring.
