The following message was sent to the Barnard community on January 29, 2020:

Dear Members of the Barnard Community,

Late last year, heartbreaking tragedy took the young life of Tess Majors, a bright and talented student just beginning her journey here at Barnard and into the world. We mourned her death together as the year drew to a close, with the promise of honoring Tess' life as a community in the coming months.

On Friday, Feb. 7, at 3:45 p.m., we will gather in the South Hall of Riverside Church to pay tribute to Tess, remembering her through the music and words she cherished so dearly. We welcome you to share your memories and photos for possible inclusion in the memorial; please send submissions via this form by Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5 p.m.

To help with the planning process, please complete this form by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, if you would like to attend. (This event will be closed to the media.)

When taking care of yourself and offering support to each other, please remember that Furman Counseling Center and other wellness resources are available, and we encourage you to reach out as needed.

I continue to be comforted and inspired by the unity and shared strength I've seen across campus, and know that Barnard will remain steadfast in our collective mission while healing as a community.

With sympathy and solidarity,

Leslie Grinage
Dean of the College
