On September 6, 2023, Elizabeth Ananat, Mallya Professor of Women and Economics, was appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s new standing committee on reproductive health, justice, and society.
The purpose of the committee is to assess the health, economic, social, and policy implications of access to reproductive health services and identify ways to improve health and well-being through reproductive health care access. Through webinars and other activities, the standing committee will foster a constructive environment for the exchange of ideas among federal, state, and local government agencies, the private sector, the academic community, and other relevant stakeholders. On October 5, 2023, the committee will host its first event, a public workshop focused on the effects of the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade.
