Professor Matthew Keegan

In late 2020, Matthew L. Keegan, Moinian assistant professor of Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, published the new article titled, "Adab Without the Crusades: The Inebriated Solidarity of a Young Officer's Hunting Epistle," in the 28th volume of the journal Al-ʿUsur al-Wusta: The Journal of Middle East Medievalists.

Keegan examines the various constructions of Muslim solidarity and the role of the Crusades in shaping present day understandings of classical Islamic literature. "Adab Without the Crusades" offers a different perspective on both understandings of solidarity and of medieval adab literature, through an analysis of an epistle or letter describing feasting and hunting.
