All incoming first year and transfer/visiting students will receive an email from BCIT with information about how to retrieve their login/password once their accounts are ready to be activated, approximately two weeks after sending their response and deposit to Barnard.
Activate your account
- Find your 7-digit Barnard ID Number] and UNI (which you received via email from BCIT/Registrar).
- Navigate to Barnard's Self-Service Password Management Tool, password.barnard.edu, and choose "Forgot Your Password?"
- Enter your UNI and click Next.
- On the following pages, type in your Barnard ID number, your month and day of birth, and the last four digits of your mobile phone number, as prompted (this must be the same mobile number that Barnard has in our systems when you applied).
- On the final page, create your password, using the guidelines on the page. When you have chosen a password and typed it in both boxes, click "Finish".
Setup Duo for Multifactor Authentication
- Download and install the Duo app from your Playstore/App store. (If you already have it, you do not need to download it again. You will only need to add the Barnard profile to your existing app.)
- Go to gbear.barnard.edu and you will get prompted for your Barnard username and password via OneLogin.
- Once you enter your credentials you will get prompted to setup Duo via a mobile device you will use as a secondary form of authentication. Follow the prompts as follows:
- Click on Start Setup > Mobile phone > Continue > Input your cell phone number and check the box that this is the correct phone number. Continue > select Mobile Phone > Continue. Select: I have Duo Mobile> Activate through the app on your cellphone and follow the instructions. You will need to open the Duo Mobile app on your phone, click on the plus sign (+) in the top right corner of the app and then scan the barcode with your phone, this should create a Barnard profile in Duo. Then click Continue on the computer screen.
- It is recommended to setup Automatic pushes to your device by selecting "Automatically send this device a Duo Push" when prompted. At the Duo Security window, click on ‘Send Me a Push’. You can choose to check ‘Remember me for 12 hours’ to stay logged in. The Duo Push notification will show up on your phone screen, tap where indicated to view the available actions: Approve or Deny. Select Approve.

- Once you have successfully changed your password and setup Duo, you should log into the myBarnard portal (my.barnard.edu) with your new password to ensure you are able to access all content available to students. (If you receive a blank page stating that you do not have the "proper constituency" please email help@barnard.edu from your Barnard gBear email to open an incident report.
- You should also return back to password.barnard.edu to choose your own self-service password reset questions, in the event you forget your password.
