What does it mean to advance well being in your work? And how does that differ from (or how does it align with) the challenges of advancing well-being at work? The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated changes in workplace culture — and in general discourse — about what it means to be well, to pursue work-life balance, and to advance well-being in one's work. Hear from a panel of alums on the changing face of well-being in their careers, and in workplaces across industries.
The Changing Face of Well-Being in Careers Panelist Bios
Bio:
Lisa Podemski is a graduate of Barnard College and NYU Law, and attended Stanford Law School. Lisa is a Senior Attorney for Children at the Legal Aid Society. She served on Legal Aid's wellness committees for over a decade—presenting on vicarious trauma, burn-out, and mindfulness to attorneys, interns, and law students. She is a 500-hour registered yoga teacher, completing her trainings with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman. Lisa is attuned in Reiki Level 2. Lisa serves as Chair of the Mindfulness & Well-being in Law Committee at the City Bar and is a founding member of the NYSBA’s Attorney Well-Being Committee.
Career Advice:
Don’t commit to a career path too early, keep your options open. Explore everything that interests you and take classes, intern, and volunteer in all those areas. You’ll be very busy but it will be worth it!
Bio:
Maymouna Sissoko is a public health professional passionate about program implementation and community education in SRMNH (Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn Health). Her current role as a Provider Liaison in the NYC DOHMH serves to put an end to the siloes of clinicians, medical providers and CBOs to advance towards the goal of not only eliminating the maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rate in the city but to better the lives for the newest New Yorkers and their parents.
Career Advice:
You can fake it until you make it but only if you put yourself in every room, make connections, follow up, do your research and be Bold
Sarah Ann Anderson-Burnett is Director of Clinical Services and Quality Improvement, Barnard College
Bio:
Minki is a product manager at Meta as well as the founder of a startup (WINii) to empower women in tech with financial literacy. Both her work and her passion focuses on expanding accessibility to opportunities (whether to new technologies or building wealth) to more users.
Career Advice:
- If you don't ask, the answer is always no.
- Being authentic and generous pays dividends.
