Part II | Black, Brilliant & Free/An Ode to Zora: Cut & Conjure Session (Collage)
Join interdisciplinary artist and literary scholar, OlaRonke Akinmowo, in collaboration with B.O.S.S. and Barnard Library for Black, Brilliant and Free : An Ode to Zora in 3 Parts.
This is an interactive installation, discussion and workshop series in honor of the Zora Neale Hurston Centennial at Barnard College.
All are welcome to visit the installation as well as attend three special events happening during the Spring 2025 semester.
Part II: Collage
Cut & Conjure is a community collage session led by Akinmowo that invites folks to make collages in exploration of various themes and ideas. This session invites folks to make work responding to the life and legacy of Zora Neale Hurston, specifically her memoir Dust Tracks On a Road.
Free copies of the book will be made available for all participants while supplies last (email tbryant@barnard.edu for a copy.) There will also be PDFs of the text available.
Bios/Background:
OlaRonke Akinmowo
Creator/Director of The Free Black Women's Library, a social art project that features a collection of over 5000 books written by Black women & Black non-binary writers, a free store, a period pantry, a backyard garden, a virtual Reading Club, a weekly book swap, and a wide array of free public programs. It is a literary hub, social site, Black Feminist archive, and community care space located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. All races, ages, and genders are welcome to read, write, work, rest, day dream, and learn in this space. Follow the library @thefreeblackwomenslibrary to stay connected.

Originally formed in 1969, BOSS is a student group formed to support, empower, and establish siblinghood between Black students at Barnard.
