Gorelick

In August 2022, Nathan Gorelick, term assistant professor of English, published a paper in the empirical research journal Continental Thought and Theory, titled “Epistème la gris: Foucault and Psychedelic Neoliberalism.” In this article, Gorelick describes Foucault’s vision of neoliberalism, maintaining that Foucault did not endorse neoliberalism but instead occupied neoliberalism’s point of view to critique the techniques and strategies that are employed to render a society governable. Gorelick also examines Foucault’s experimentation with psychedelics, which influenced his theories and changed his worldview. Furthermore, he argues that Foucault’s theories about neoliberalism illuminate how psychedelics are consumed by the public, including how psychedelics are romanticized and sensationalized as an avenue for corporate governability over individuals and populations.
