Fall 2020 Online Programming
Synchronous Games
Each of the following games will be offered synchronously during the fall of 2020:
-
October 23-24: Chicago, 1968 (GM: Nick Proctor
Each game will begin with an orientation/how-to session on Friday evening. The game itself will run over the entirety of the day on Saturday, beginning in the morning and ending in the evening (with breaks included).
Specific schedules may vary for each game, and will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
Microgames
Microgames can be a great way to introduce students to active learning or role playing. Many professors also use microgames as a low-stakes early class session, or as sort of 'auditions' for casting longer Reacting games. This microgame, Making History, requires no preparation, and your materials will be shared with you immediately during your play session. Several 90-minute sessions will be offered throughout the month of September; for more information and to register, please go to this link: https://reacting.regfox.com/septmicrogame.
Game-Specific Webinars
We will be offering a weekly series of webinars focusing on some of our most popular games. These sessions will help prepare participants to use the active learning pedagogy, and the particular games, online. We will discuss best practices for using the games in virtual classes, how to translate game mechanics online, and highlight key considerations for both synchronous and asynchronous platforms (including slack and video conferencing). Experienced Reacting professors and game authors will lead the discussions and answer questions. For those unfamiliar with the particular games in any format, there will be additional (optional) sessions beforehand to introduce the game's themes and structures. Recordings of each webinar will be available to purchase.
