Health & Safety Checks
Health & Safety Checks are completed once each semester to keep our residence halls safe for everyone. During a check, staff will enter student rooms to look for things that could be unsafe or violate College policies.
What We’re Checking For
-
Fire hazards — things like candles, extension cords, unapproved appplicance, etc.
-
Prohibited items — any item that isn’t allowed in the res halls
-
Room damage — leaks, broken windows, anything Facilities may need to fix
-
Safety equipment — smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, window guards; must all be working and unaltered
What You Should Do
-
Go through the Prohibited Items List and see if anything in your room isn’t allowed
-
If you have something that’s not allowed, get rid of it — send it home or donate it
-
Tidy up and make sure your room meets basic cleanliness standards
What Happens If Something’s Off
-
Prohibited items will be confiscated. Confiscated items will not be returned
-
If fire or life safety equipment is damaged or modified (smoke detectors, etc.), there will be fines and possible disciplinary action
