Summer Research 2025:
The Barnard Chemistry Department will be moving to temporary research laboratories at Columbia University during the Summer of 2025. Many Barnard faculty members will continue to support student researchers during this transition summer. However, students may find this to be a good summer to explore research opportunities outside of Barnard.
Beyond Barnard may be able to help students find industrial internships. Students who are potentially interested in majoring in chemistry or biochemistry should email rperring@barnard.edu to notify the department of their potential interest. Additional internship opportunities are distributed by email.
If you have any questions, you can contact Christian Rojas as the Chem Dept SRI Representative: crojas@barnard.edu.

Summer Internships Away from Barnard
Many colleges and universities have REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) programs sponsored by the NSF (National Science Foundation) or similar summer internship programs. Rising seniors (those finishing their junior year) are often preferred, but many programs are open to rising juniors and sophomores. Some application deadlines are as early as February 1, others are later.
Apply often, and good luck
