Surveys at Barnard
Survey Overview
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness coordinates institutional surveys to better understand student experiences and outcomes. These surveys provide valuable insights that inform strategic planning, enhance campus resources, and support student success.
In addition to surveys developed in partnership with the OIE, Barnard participates periodically in select national or peer benchmarking surveys that support institutional research priorities.
A full survey calendar and links to past survey results (where applicable) will be shared here as more surveys are added.
For questions about survey participation or to propose a new survey, please contact the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
Our Survey Software: Qualtrics
Qualtrics is a powerful survey platform for research and data collection, used by Barnard College. Find resources on accessing Qualtrics, guidelines for survey design, best practices for data management, and support for using the platform effectively for institutional research, assessments, and evaluations.

BEAR Survey
Barnard’s flagship student experience survey, the BEAR (Barnard Experience and Reflection) Survey, is administered twice a year—in the middle of the fall and spring semesters. It captures student perspectives on academics, wellness, belonging, and campus life, helping the College identify areas for improvement and track change over time. For more information, see here.
