Voting in your Home State

If you feel most connected to the issues and candidates in your home state, then you may choose to stay registered there to make your vote count.
This is especially relevant if you plan to return to your home state after graduation.
If you would like to register in your home state there are a few resources you may use. Note that registration deadlines and eligibility requirements vary per state.
- Visit the U.S. Election Assistance Commission website to download the National Voter Registration form. This is the one document that enables you to register to vote anywhere in the country. It includes state specific instructions to assist you in filling out the form and getting it delivered to the proper address. Stamps and envelopes for voting mail are also available in the CEI Office, 010 Milbank.
- Find voter registration forms on TurboVote. TurboVote includes deadlines, easy-to-follow-directions, and a breakdown of the relevant laws.
- To see deadlines for your state, please visit the Campus Vote Project website. To find the address for your local election office, use the Democracy Works website. To find your state’s official election websites, visit the How To Vote website.
- Need your registration or ballot form notarized? Email cei@barnard.edu for help. You can also pay for notarization services at many UPS stores.
- Once your local Board of Elections receives and verifies your ballot application, they will mail you your ballot. Check your Secretary of State website to see when you will receive your ballot; if you do not receive it by said deadline, call your Board of Elections.
- We recommend you mail in your completed absentee ballots no later than 2 weeks before election day.
