NEW YORK, MARCH 27, 2025 —  Barnard College proudly welcomes an exceptional and dynamic group of students to the Class of 2029, a cohort that embodies intellectual curiosity, leadership, and a commitment to making their mark on the world. This new cohort serves as a benchmark for the caliber of passionate young women that Barnard continues to attract each year.

Every incoming student to Barnard will contribute unique value to and benefit from attending the only women’s liberal arts college in New York City. Barnard offers a strong connection to Columbia University and gives students direct access to world-class academic, cultural, and professional opportunities, both on campus and across the city.

While admitted students have until May 1 to make their final decisions, one thing is certain: This class is ready to make an impact.

The admitted students hail from 47 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and more than 40 countries, further strengthening the College’s geographic reach. More than one in five (21%) will be the first in their families to attend a four-year college, reflecting Barnard’s mission to improve access and equity in higher education.

Admissions decisions were released on the evening of Wednesday, March 26, as Barnard extended its invitation to this new generation of women eager to contribute to the community.

“It is a privilege to welcome such an inspiring and accomplished group of students,” said Jennifer Fondiller ’88, Vice President for Enrollment and External Affairs. “Their applications reflected not only their academic excellence but also their enthusiasm, perseverance, and the remarkable ways in which they have already made a difference. We can’t wait to see how they shape our campus and beyond.”

Throughout the month of April, admitted students will have opportunities to connect with faculty, current students, administrators, and alumnae through both in-person and virtual events, providing an inside look at life at Barnard.

The admissions staff visited students at their high schools and hosted thousands of students and their families on campus and through virtual programs to introduce them to Barnard.

Programs such as Barnard Bound, College Horizons, and Small Town Outreach, Recruitment, and Yield (STORY) have been important initiatives to identify and support high-achieving first-generation, low-income students.

The College will welcome its fourth QuestBridge cohort of 15 students, admitted through the QuestBridge National College Match program. Additionally, Barnard offers research and support programs designed for first-generation, low-income students, including the Higher Education Opportunity Program, the Science Pathways Scholars Program, and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP).

“This class represents the very best of what Barnard stands for: academic excellence, bold thinking, and an intrinsic ambition to contribute meaningfully to the world,” said Ruby Bhattacharya, Director of Admissions. “We are excited to see how they will shape our community, and we look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.”

Academic Excellence

From groundbreaking research projects to award-winning creative endeavors, the Class of 2029 has demonstrated exceptional academic achievements. Among those who reported class rank, 94% were in the top 10% of their graduating class. Many have expressed interest in STEM fields and have already tackled complex scientific inquiries, launched entrepreneurial ventures, and earned top honors in national competitions. In their communities, they’ve led student governments, edited newspapers and performed on stages at their schools and beyond. At Barnard, they’ll find a community that encourages them to take these interests even further.

Beyond the Classroom

Beyond academic achievements, the Class of 2029 has exhibited remarkable leadership and community involvement. Whether it’s organizing major events, breaking records in sports, or composing original music, this group has already proven they are not afraid to push boundaries. Many have spearheaded projects and created stories that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. They’re not just participants, they’re leaders, creators, and innovators.

Looking Ahead

As the countdown to move-in day begins, the Barnard community is excited to welcome our incoming class. In a few months, the newest members of our community will be walking through the gates and waving to Millie the Bear, the Barnard mascot, ready to explore, challenge themselves, and dive headfirst into college life. They’ll meet lifelong friends, find inspiring mentors, and carve out their paths in Morningside Heights and beyond.

To the Class of 2029: Welcome to Barnard!
