Dear Barnard community,

We are writing with an update on the ongoing construction work in Barnard Hall for the rest of the semester:

  • Barnard Hall north elevator will be shut down starting next Monday, November 13. Reopening is targeted for the start of the Spring semester. While the south elevator will remain operational during this time, we ask you to take the stairs if possible in order to be mindful of those who must rely on the elevator.
  • The new mezzanine slab will be poured the week of November 13 and the following week, so expect higher than average truck traffic on Claremont Avenue.
  • A crane truck is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 18 to bring equipment to the roof. Claremont Avenue will not be closed. The fourth floor of Barnard Hall will have to be vacated for the duration of that work and we will be in touch with those impacted once that date is finalized.
  • The tunnel in Barnard Hall will be closed Wednesday, November 22 through Saturday, November 25, and during Winter Break from Friday, December 22 through Monday January 15. Access to the south elevator will be maintained at the tunnel level. Signage will be posted directing to alternate routes.
  • There will be HVAC and roofing work on the Barnard Annex roof and North Plaza throughout the remainder of fall semester.
  • We are happy to announce that the first floor bathrooms will reopen near the end of the fall semester.
  • There will be no noisy work during Reading Days and Finals Week.
