This spring, Barnard Center for Research on Women research assistant Asha Futterman ’21 and Mariame Kaba, BCRW Social Justice Institute Researcher-in-Residence, hosted Radical Black Women of Harlem: A Walking Tour

On the tour, Futterman and Kaba shared stories of the inspiring black women whose work and lives shaped Harlem’s radical history, such as Regina Andrews, Ella Baker, Williana Burroughs, Amy Ashwood Garvey, Zora Neale Hurston ’28, Claudia Jones, Lorraine Hansberry, Audre Lorde, Mae Mallory, Pauli Murray, Louise Thompson Patterson, Eslanda Robeson, and Madam C.J. Walker. Futterman and Kaba also collaborated on a guidebook for the tour, available to download here, that includes a map and addresses, making their research and work available to anyone interested in taking a self-guided tour.

On November 1, 2019, Fodor's Travel highlighted the tour in a feature article.
