Dear Barnard community,

We hope you had a nice holiday and are looking forward to the Spring semester. We’d like to give you an update on the Barnard Hall construction project and what you can expect for the start of the Spring semester.

Barnard Hall - Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Center for Well-Being

  • The following spaces are being opened to the Barnard community:
    • The tunnel between Milstein and Hewitt Halls (Note: lockers and bulletin boards have been permanently removed; new finishes and lighting to be completed later in the Spring semester)
    • North Elevator (new mezzanine stop will be enabled upon project completion)
    • New gender inclusive 1st floor lobby restroom
    • Two new single occupancy restrooms in the lower level, starting later this week
    • Studio 1 (Dance)
    • Studio 2 (Physical Education) will be opening for Fitbear classes later in the semester
  • A crane pick to place mechanical equipment on the roof of Barnard Hall is planned for this Saturday, January 20 starting 7 a.m., with Saturday, January 27 as a back-up date. It will require vacating the fourth floor as well as a full street closure of Claremont, as the crane will take up a majority of the street. Signage will be posted on Thursday or Friday (pending permits) for parking notices along Claremont.
  • Shortly after the crane pick, we will be working on the water line that crosses Claremont. This work will also require a street closure and will have some noise and dust impacts; we will share details later this month.
  • Throughout the semester, construction will continue from the basement through the 1st floor as well as the North annex Plaza, attic and roofs.
  • IT work will occur as part of the construction throughout the semester. The team strives to minimize any outages by carefully planning the work in coordination with BCIT. If you notice a loss of service, please contact the BCIT Service desk. If it is related to the construction, the team will act immediately to restore service promptly
  • There will be ongoing work in the southwest corner of the building on floors 2, 3, 4 through the end of January.
  • Exterior work at the North Annex plaza will begin later in the semester. Additional information will be shared on timing and logistics as we get closer to spring break.

AT&T service

Over winter break, AT&T Telecom equipment has been removed from Milbank Hall, which may affect this carrier's coverage on campus. Wi-Fi calling can be activated on your device to alleviate this issue.

Thank you for your patience as we do this important work over the next few months. For additional information on the Barnard construction projects, visit the Barnard Builds website and/or email barnardbuilds@barnard.edu.
