Group Fitness Director

Laura Masone, Chair and Senior Associate in Physical Education, joined the faculty of Barnard in 1992. She is the Group Fitness Director for Barnard's FITbear Program and has been the Director of Columbia's Group Fitness Program since 1985.  She teaches all Group Fitness classes as well as Total Body Conditioning, Fitness Outside, Instructor Training, and Self-Paced/Advanced Courses and is the Faculty Advisor for Independent Study in Physical Education.

She is an expert in training fitness instructors and personal trainers. She developed the instructor training program and manual for Fitness Masters, the NYC Ballet Workout and the NYC Parks Foundation.  She trains all of the group fitness instructors on the Barnard/Columbia campus.
