Mental Well-Being

The Francine LeFrak Center continues the work of advancing mental well-being at Barnard through programming, workshops, and new spaces to house longstanding peer health education initiatives.

Denise LeFrak Foundation Alcohol & Substance Awareness Program

The Denise LeFrak Foundation Alcohol & Substance Awareness Program (ASAP) offers confidential counseling (in partnership with Health & Wellness), assessment and referral, as well as education and outreach programs (like the mocktail event pictured here). The Program also provides a private and quiet substance-free space on the mezzanine level of the Francine LeFrak Center for quiet relaxation.

Advancing the Barnard Community's Mental Well-Being

Mental well-being has long been an area of focus at Barnard College. The Francine LeFrak Center provides expanded spaces and resources to build on existing initiatives while exploring new partnerships and programs. Together with campus partners, we aim to help continue to advance awareness of mental health and its overlaps with other areas of well-being.

Initiatives like the Denise LeFrak Foundation Alcohol Substance Use Awareness Program (ASAP), Being Barnard, the Wellness Spot, and the Francine LeFrak Ambassadors provide students with essential tools for maintaining mental wellness. Events such as the Campus Violence Prevention and Response Resource Fair, hosted by Being Barnard, connect students with campus offices and local organizations focused on safety and the prevention of gender-based violence. During high-stress times like midterms and finals, students can unwind with Wellness Spot spa nights or grab snacks and self-care items from the Francine LeFrak Ambassadors’ “Wellness Where You Are” stations in the library. And for an extra dose of comfort, therapy dogs make special visits to campus throughout the year.
