August Interim

  • May Interim

  • Access Barnard Summer Staff

Summer Housing ends at 5pm on Friday, August 8, 2025. Barnard summer classes run through Friday, August 15, 2025.

Students enrolled in a summer class during Block B may request to pay for a one-week extension to the 5pm Friday, August 8 check-out deadline.

  • Students should submit the August Interim application and indicate they just need an extension for a Block B class.
  • The price is $491.05 (7 nights of the August Interim price).
  • Students will need to provide confirmation of their enrollment in a Block B class.
  • Students will be required to move to a temporary room (by no later than 5pm on Friday, August 8) in the Quad for the one-week extension.
  • Students will need to move out of the extension room by no later than 5pm on Friday, August 15.

At the end of Summer Block B (5pm Friday, August 8, 2025), all students are expected to move out of summer housing. A limited number of students may qualify to apply for August Interim (i.e. to bridge until the official start of Fall housing).

August Interim is intended to provide housing for students who live too far away from campus to go home between the end of the Summer and the start of Fall semester (i.e. permanent home addresses that are 500+ miles from campus). August Interim is not to provide storage space for students' belongings so they may leave campus and students are required to stay on campus for the entire period so they can move when required.

Students in August Interim housing must abide by all College and Residential Life policies and procedures while in the Barnard residence halls. Allegations of policy violation will be subject to the disciplinary process and may result in sanctions up to or including removal from interim and/or academic year summer housing.

Students may not give access to their room and/or suite to others, including roommate(s), suitemate(s), and/or floormate(s) who have not been given permission to move in prior to the official Fall move-in date for new or continuing students. If found to have given access to another student or their belongings, both students will be subject to disciplinary action, which could include the loss of interim and/or academic year housing.

  • Log into the Housing Portal and click SUMMER HOUSING > AUGUST INTERIM
  • Deadline: 1pm Wednesday, July 9, 2025

August Interim housing may be available to Barnard (& Columbia students) who meet the following requirements:

  • Be in Barnard (or Columbia*) summer housing for Block B (or Full Summer)
  • Have a room assignment (or a guarantee of housing) in a Barnard residence hall for Fall 2024
  • Have a permanent address that is more than 500 miles from campus

Students living in Columbia residence halls for the Fall semester must apply for August Interim Housing through CU Undergraduate Housing. Columbia students living in a Barnard residence hall for the Fall semester may apply for August Interim Housing through Barnard.

Students who cancel summer housing will cease to be eligible for August Interim Housing and cancellation fees may apply.

If you will be in Columbia Summer Housing for Block B, you must forward confirmation to housing@barnard.edu by 1pm Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Otherwise, your request for August Interim housing will not be approved.

The charge for August Interim Housing is $1543.30.

The August Interim Housing charge will be part of the Fall bill mailed to students in July and is payable by August 1, 2025.

Students who are approved for early move-in in order to be an Orientation Leader, etc. will receive a prorated reduction in price only after the early move-in request is received & approved from their sponsoring department. Students will need to be prepared to pay the full charge by the August 1 payment deadline (and then will receive a credit on their account later in August).

Columbia students approved for May Interim housing will be required to pay by check payable to BARNARD COLLEGE by August 1.

Students approved for August Interim housing will be required to stay on campus for the entire time. The interim period is not to provide storage for students’ belongings so they may leave campus.

Students who fail to move when required will be fined (minimum $500) to have their belongings removed from campus and are subject to disciplinary action (which could include the loss of August Interim and/or academic year housing).

Students should expect to move to a temporary, non-air-conditioned, shared double-occupancy rooms in the Quad in order to facilitate the cleaning of the residence halls for the Fall. A very limited number of students may be able to move directly to their Fall room, but that cannot be confirmed until students will start to move on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Students will need to sign for room keys at the Res Life office (110 Sulzberger) during the times below. Students must sign in-person for their own room keys (keys cannot be issued to friends or family).

  • 9:30am-4:30pm Thursday, August 7, 2025
  • 9:30am-4:30pm Friday, August 8, 2025

Once students sign for their room keys, they can start moving to their temporary (or Fall) room in order to be moved out before the 5pm Friday, August 8, 2025, check-out deadline. No extensions are available for the summer housing check-out deadline.

Students will be required to move into their Fall room assignment once the Facilities office has finished cleaning the building.

Because the length of time to clean the buildings varies from year to year, students will need to be prepared to move when instructed by the Res Life office.
