Dining & Food Options
Hewitt Dining Hall will close for the Fall 2023 semester on Friday, December 22 at 2pm and will re-open on Sunday, January 14 for dinner (4:30pm - 8pm). Limited food options and resources will be available during the winter break period.
Shelf-stable grocery items will be available for pick up at Hewitt dining during the following times:
- Monday, December 18 - Thursday, December 21: 10:30am - 11am, 2:30pm - 4pm
- Friday, December 22: 10am - 2pm
- Wednesday, January 3, 2024 - Friday, January 12, 2024 (Monday - Friday, 10am - 2pm
Barnard students will be able to swipe into Hewitt dining hall during the times listed above and select shelf-stable items as needed. Swipes will be used for headcount and informational purposes only, there is no meal plan charge for this service. Please bring a reusable bag to carry your items.
Liz's Place will be open Wednesday, January 3 - Friday, January 12 (Monday - Friday, 8am - 2pm)
- Barnard dining points and credit cards will be accepted.
- Items available will include: grab & go items, breakfast sandwiches and reheatable meals for purchase
Guest Policies
Guest sign-ins will be limited from Dec 22 - Jan 7:
- Students may sign in only 1 guest at a time.
- Overnight guests will be limited to two consecutive nights.
- Minors are not permitted as guests (through Jan 13).
Health & Wellness
Primary Care Health Services (PCHS)
- PCHS will be closed for in-person clinical services December 25 - January 2, 2024. During this closure period, the after-hours services phone number will be available 24/7 to support any clinical concerns at 1-855-622-1903.
- Please call the CARES Community Safety emergency line (212-854-6666) for any medical emergencies on campus.
- NOTE: Columbia Health will not see Barnard College students.
- PCHS will be fully open for all regular appointments starting January 3, 2024
- Furman will be closed for all services from December 23 - January 2, 2024.
- Limited appointments will be available for students starting January 3, 2024. Please call the office at 212-854-2092 for further details.
- The Wellness Spot office will be closed from December 22, 2023 and will reopen on January 16, 2024

Campus Safety
The CARES Response Team (212) 854-3362 and Community Safety will be on campus during the break, with reduced staffing in alignment with reduced operations.
- In the event of an emergency on campus, the emergency line is (212) 854-6666.
- As you navigate the area, remember safety tips - travel with others where possible, use well-lit routes, and know your options for transportation. Keep belongings on you / in sight at all times.
- Campus building access will be limited from the afternoon of 12/22/2023 through the morning of 1/4/2024. The Diana Center and Barnard Hall will be open to students from 8am-10pm only. Only students who applied for Winter Break housing will be able to access the residence halls.
- The VIA Service will continue to operate as a free evening transportation option from 4pm-3am daily in the Columbia area. If you are walking and would like a "phone escort" call the CARES Line 212-854-3362 and a staff member will stay on the line with you until you reach your destination.
Residential Life & Housing Resources
On-duty staff will serve on call for the duration of Winter Break. On-call support will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between Friday, December 22, 2023 through Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

The Office of Residential Life & Housing (SULZ 110) will re-open on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 9AM.
Lock Outs: Students may borrow the emergency key at the front desk of their building. Emergency keys should be returned within 15 minutes.
Mail Services
Mail Services will be available in a limited capacity throughout the winter break period.
- Wednesday, December 27: 9:30am - 1:30pm
- Thursday, December 28: 9:30am - 1:30pm
- Friday, December 29: 9:30am - 3:45pm
- Wednesday, January 3 - Thursday, January 11: 9am - 4:45pm (Monday - Friday only)
- Thursday, January 12: 9am - 3:45pm
Please note: mail services will be closed on Monday, December 26, Tuesday, December 26 and Saturday, December 30 through Tuesday, January 2.
Dean' s Office for Advising & Support
The Deans' Office for Advising and Support will be closed from December 22 through January 3. Class deans will be available for student appointments for the remainder of the Winter Break (January 3-12).
Winter Break Policies
- The residence halls are closed for Winter Break starting at 9am on Friday, December 22, 2023, through 9am on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
- Students who sign up to be on campus during Winter Break may be required to temporarily relocate to a different residence hall for the break period.
- Students may only be in campus housing during Winter Break if they are enrolled for and have a room assignment for both the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Students who take a leave of absence and/or cancel Spring housing will not be permitted to remain on campus during Winter Break.
- Students may only remain on campus during Winter Break if they are in "good standing" with the College/University, which includes payment of the Spring tuition bill.
- Students involved in any disciplinary incidents and/or other violations of the Residence Hall Handbook, Student Conduct Code, and/or local/state/federal law may be required to leave campus housing during the Winter Break.

- Occupancy is minimal during Winter Break. As always, students should take safety and security precautions by locking room/suite doors. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with which other students may be nearby during the Break or Early Return week.
- Many campus offices & services will be closed and/or have reduced hours over Winter Break, including (but not limited to) Primary Care Health Service, Furman Counseling, the Student MailRoom, Dining Services, BCIT Student Computing Services, and the Library.
- Community Safety is available 24/7. For emergencies, call 212-854-6666. For non-emergency inquiries, please call 212-854-3362.
- There are on-call Res Life staff members 24 hours/day during the break. You can contact the on-call Res Life staff via Barnard Community Safety / CARES.

- Students should carry their Barnard Student ID with them at all times. Students must swipe their ID each time they enter their residence hall.
